Husker Women Defeat Wichita State

Lincoln - The No. 66 Nebraska women's tennis team defeated Wichita State tonight at the Woods Tennis Center. The Huskers dropped just two matches against the Shockers. In singles, No. 1 junior Sandra Noetzel, ranked 57th nationally, took Anette Hartman in two sets, winning the match 7-5, 6-3. At No. 2 singles, freshman Katarina Balan made an impressive debut beating Annolie van de Heever, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. Sophomore Ndali Ijomah breezed through her match, defeating Kelli Clark 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

The Husker's dominance continued at No. 4 singles with junior Gina Pelazini beating Steph King 6-2, 6-0. Sophomore Danica Hardy won her match against Julie Perovic 6-2, 6-1, at fifth singles. At No. 6, freshman Amy Frisch closed out singles, beating Martina Stojkic 7-5, 6-2. In doubles, the No. 1 team of Noetzel and Ijomah defeated King and van den Heever 8-2.

The Huskers return to action Sunday, March 7, at the Woods Tennis Center against Montana State.
