Danica Hardy Season 1998-99

1998-99: Sophomore
Danica Hardy was a consistent contributor in her sophomore season and a mainstay in the Husker lineup on both the singles and doubles courts. Hardy was at her best in doubles play, pairing with freshman Katarina Balan to post a tremendous 18-5 record during the spring. The duo went 3-2 at the No. 2 slot, but dominated the field at No. 3 doubles by going 15-3, highlighted by a nine-match winning streak they strung together. Hardy also teamed up with Gina Pelazini during the season, but the pair lost the only match they played together. On the singles court in the spring, Hardy produced a 10-16 overall record, going 7-15 at No. 5 and 3-1 at the No. 6 spot.

1997-98: Freshman
Hardy saw a lot of action during her freshman year. In singles, she posted a 5-5 mark at the No. 5 slot and a 4-2 mark at No. 6. In doubles, Hardy saw time at all three positions, putting up an 8-2 record. Hardy posted a 1-1 record during the fall season. At the Rolex Invitational, Hardy made a successful collegiate debut, defeating BYU's Shari Smith 6-3, 6-0 to qualify for the main draw before losing a three-set first round match to Boise State's Bettina Pieri.

Before Nebraska
Hardy was a four -year letterwinner in tennis under Head Coach Doak Moore at Righetti High School. During her high school career, she posted a mark of 296-12 at No. 1 singles, including an unblemished 168-0 mark in conference matches. Righetti High School's Athlete of the Year, Hardy advanced to the CIF semifinals as a senior. Hardy was the league's MVP in each of her four seasons and was featured in Sports Illustrated's Faces in the Crowd segment. Danica was also a member of the honor roll at Righetti High School.

Personal
The daughter of Debra and Michael Hardy, Danica was born on July 31, 1979. She is an advertising major and has two younger brothers, Kyle and Stafan.
