Husker Golfers Tie For Fourth at Kansas Invite

Lawrence, Kan. --Senior Steve Friesen led the Husker men's golf team for the second week in a row with an eighth-place finish Tuesday at the Kansas Invitational. Nebraska tied with Oral Roberts for fourth with an 882 after completing day one in ninth. Friesen, a native of Lincoln, fired a one-under-par 215 to aid Nebraska to a fourth-place finish.

Friesen, who won the Falcon-Cross Creek Invitational to begin the season last week, recorded his second sub-70 round this fall with a 69 in the final round Tuesday.

Defending tournament champion Kansas dominated the competition, winning the tournament by 19 strokes. The Jayhawks shot a nine-under-par 855. Iowa State was second with 874.

Nebraska's Scott Gutschewski tied for 12th with a two-over-par 218 (75-71-72). Jamie Rogers carded a 71 in the final round after struggling with a 79 in the rain-delayed second to finish in a tie for 31st with 224 strokes. Other Huskers competing included Josh Madden, who finished 42nd (73-78-75--226) and Seth Porter, a freshman in his first collegiate tournament, finished 84th (79-78-80--237).

Nebraska's next competition is in Fort Collins, Colo., at the Colorado State Ram Intercollegiate, Sept. 28-29.
