Rogers helped the team to four other top four showings with a 71.7 stroke average in five tournaments.
Junior (1997-98)
Rogers became the first Husker to receive Honorable-Mention All-America honors since Knox Jones earned the honor in 1980 and was also named to the All-Big 12 team. Rogers, who led the team with a 72.8 stroke average for the fall and spring seasons combined, won three tournaments and posted three additional top five finishes during the season. Four of Rogers' 39 rounds were sub-70 performances, including a school-record tying performance of 65. Rogers finished the season ranked 50th in the nation in scoring average by Golfstat, Inc., and earned a sixth-place ranking among players in Nebraska's District 5. Rogers' hot spring was highlighted by a runner-up finish at the NCAA Central Regional. With a six-under-par 207 performance, Rogers became the highest Husker finisher ever at a regional tourney. He also tied Knox Jones' school-record score of 65 in the second round. At the NCAA Championships, Rogers finished in a tie for 73rd (71-74--145). During the regular season, he recorded just one finish outside of the top 20 in six tournaments. Rogers struggled through the first two rounds at the Big 12 Championships (85, 83), but came back strong with a 72 in the final round to finish 41st. As Nebraska's top finisher and one of the premier performers in the nation, Rogers was ranked as high as sixth in the country during the season in scoring average, and consistently ranked among the Top 40 in the MasterCard Individual Rankings. In tournament action, Rogers won the season-opening UTSA Invitational, finished second at the Louisiana Classics Invitational and also won the spring's third tournament, the Cleveland Golf Collegiate. Rogers finished the spring season with a 74.04 stroke average, which ranked second on the team behind Steve Friesen. Rogers paced Nebraska from the beginning of the fall with a season-opening win at the Falcon/Cross Creek Invitational (69-71-70--210, a season-best three-round mark). In four other tournaments, Rogers notched three top seven finishes and never finished lower than 15th. Rogers sparked Nebraska to a runner-up team finish (876) at the Kansas Invitational, with a third-place showing (72-73-71--216). He was sixth at the shortened Kroger Intercollegiate (70-77--147) and finished seventh at the Red Raider Intercollegiate (71-70-71--212). At the Legends of Indiana Intercollegiate, Rogers finished 15th (74-70-71). A team leader in fall stroke average (71.4), Rogers was the top Husker finisher in the first two tournaments (Cross Creek and Kansas Invite) and was the second-leading finisher on the squad for the final three tournaments. Rogers was ranked as high as seventh in the nation in scoring average during the season and finished with the eighth-best scoring average in the nation.
