Senior (1998-99)
Scott Gutschewski (pronounced Geh-CHESS-key) finished a solid fall with the team's third-best stroke average (71.9, a career-best). Consistent in each tournament, Gutschewski finished between sixth place and 16th place in four of five tournaments, including a season-high sixth-place finish at the Duke Golf Classic (71-73-70--214), where he tied teammate Jamie Rogers as the top Husker finisher. At the Colorado State Ram Collegiate, Gutschewski tied for 11th (71-69-71--211) and at the Kansas Invitational, he notched a 12th-place finish (75-71-72--218), which ranked second on the Husker squad. In each tournament, Gutschewski was either the first-, second- or third-leading finisher on the team. A 22nd-place finish at the Falcon-Cross Creek Invitational on Sept. 11-13 was Gutschewski's lowest finish of the fall. Consistency has been the key to Gutschewski's recent success, and he looks to be a major player in the spring in the Husker top three.

Junior (1997-98)
A consistent contributor to the Husker top four, Gutschewski finished the season with a 74.9 stroke average in 33 rounds of play, which ranked fourth on the squad. At the NCAA Championships, Gutschewski tied for 117th (73-73--149), posting the team's fourth-best finish. Gutschewski performed admirably at the NCAA Central Regional in San Antonio, Texas, May 13-16, to aid Nebraska to its first national championship berth in 20 years. With a stroke total of 218 (69-75-74) at his second consecutive regional tournament, Gutschewski tied for 34th and third on the Husker squad with a total that was just 11 strokes off the pace of teammate Jamie Rogers, who finished second. At the Big 12 Championships, Gutschewski struggled to a 53rd-place finish (83-85-80--248), while the team finished a disappointing ninth. In the spring, Gutschewski went on a hot streak at the beginning and end of the regular season's slate of events. He finished a career-high second at the first tournament of the year -- the UTSA Invitational -- in late February with a 144 (73-71). Just over a month later at the Arkansas State Indian Classic, Gutschewski added another top five finish with a team-leading fourth-place showing (69-73-76--218). During the fall season, Gutschewski saw action in three of five tournaments after taking over for Peter Smith, who competed in the first two fall contests. Gutschewski did not compete in two tournaments during the fall -- the Falcon-Cross Creek Invite and Kansas Invitational -- but still notched three top 20 finishes (including two in the top five) and carded two sub-70 rounds. A consistent performer in each meet, Gutschewski finished with a 73.6 average in eight rounds of play. His top fall performance came at the Kroger Intercollegiate in Memphis, Tenn., as he boosted the Huskers to a second-place finish out of 18 teams with a 24th-place showing in the shortened tournament (78-74--152). Gutschewski finished 39th in his first fall action at the Legends of Indiana Intercollegiate in early October by carding a 220 (70-75-75). A week after his season-best performance at the Kroger Intercollegiate, Gutschewski finished the spring season strong with a 25th-place finish at the Red Raider Intercollegiate with a season three-round best 217 (72-72-73).

Sophomore (1996-97)
A transfer from Creighton University, Gutschewski was a solid competitor, as he finished third on the team in fall-season average (75.1) and fifth in overall stroke average (77.5) in 35 rounds and 2,677 strokes of competition. Gutschewski finished in a tie for 41st at his first conference championship in late April (82-74-85--241) and posted a 75th-place finish at the NCAA Central Regional tourney (76-78-73--227). Gutschewski's top finishes were at the Falcon-Cross Creek Invite (75-70-76--221) and Kroger Intercollegiate (74-73-73--220), where he placed 10th.
