Huskers Move to 2-1 With Home Victory Over CSU

Lincoln -- The No. 67 Nebraska women's tennis team moved to 2-1 for the season with a 7-2 victory over Colorado State in women's tennis Saturday afternoon at the Woods Tennis Center.

The Huskers won all but one singles match and dropped one of three doubles matches. Sophomore Sandra Noetzel and senior Lisa Hart led NU. Noetzel, an All-Big 12 selection in 1997, defeated Colorado State's Laura Mahoney in straight sets at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-0, while Hart won the No. 2 singles match against alana Colglazier in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2. Hart joined teammate Ndali Ijomah at No. 2 doubles to bring home an 8-1 Husker victory over Christi Blount and Heidi Auvinen.

In other singles action, NU's Jennifer Thoste defeated Christi Blount, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 at No. 3 singles; Nebraska's Ijomah defeated Auvinen, 6-2 and 6-4 at No. 4 singles; and Husker Gina Pelazini won at No. 6 singles with a 6-1, 6-4 defeat of Laurie Middleton.

"Gina really played with a lot of confidence and composure," Head Coach Scott Jacobson said. "With a couple wins under her belt now, she's gained an extra edge."

Mahoney and Colglazier defeated Noetzel and Thoste in No. 1 doubles action, 8-6. However, Nebraska's No. 2 and No. 3 teams won. Hart and Ijomah beat Blount and Auvinen, 8-1, while Hardy and Pelazini defeated Allison Lisle and Middleton, 8-1.

"We really started to play with a lot more assertiveness today, especially in 2-3 doubles," Jacobsen said. "That's a step in the right direction."

The Huskers will be in action at Tusla on Feb. 14, beginning at 2 p.m. CST.
