2011-12 (Redshirt Freshman)
Regular Season
Brandon Rubino went 4-12 as a redshirt freshman in the 133 weight class. Rubino compiled a 2-2 record at the Warren Williams/Daktronics Open, but didn't place. He competed in five additional open tournaments, achieving a pair of decision victories.
2010-11 (Redshirt)
Regular Season
After a 1-4 start to begin the season, Rubino found his form at the Quality Hotel Open where he went 4-2 with a technical fall, major decision and pin to capture fifth place. Following the Quality Hotel Open, Rubino won nine of his last 13 matches to finish the season with a 13-11 overall record. More than half of Rubino's victories came in bonus-point fashion. Rubino also found the award stand at the Brand Open, finishing third after posting two of his three major decisions during the season. Along with his three majors, Rubino also won two matches by technical fall and pin.
Before Nebraska
Rubino was the Illinois 2010 Class 3A state champion as a senior after he defeated Aurora's Nicholas Drendel, 5-1, in the state finals at 112 pounds. Rubino finished his senior year with an overall record of 41-6 and was the first state champion from St. Charles East since 2004. Rubino was ranked No. 20 among high school seniors at 112 pounds, according to InterMat, and was awarded the 2010 Gaffney Outstanding Male Athlete award at St. Charles East for his efforts as a senior. As a junior, Rubino won a total of 35 matches and advanced to the second round of the consolation bracket in the state tournament.
Personal
Brandon is the son of Tony and Sherry Rubino. Rubino was born on July 24, 1992, in St. Charles, Ill. He has two younger brothers, Ryan and Anthony. Brandon is majoring in business administration.
