A two-time All-American, Al Freeman was a graduate assistant for two seasons under Bob Fehrs from 1983-85. Nebraska was 23-19 in dual action during his time on the coaching staff, including a fourth-place finish at the 1984 NCAA Championships.
The Griswold, Iowa, native highlighted his career at Nebraska with a 29-2 record his senior season, a runner-up finish at the NCAA Championships and a Big Eight championship. Freeman finished his four-year career at Nebraska with an 82-24-2 record. During his final two years, 1980-81 and 1982-83, Freeman was 54-8. He redshirted during the 1981-82 season after finishing eighth at the NCAA meet in 1980-81. Freeman was twice named to the Big Eight's All-Academic team at the 142-pound weight class.
Freeman was a 1984 graduate of the University of Nebraska.
