Bob Fehrs was the 13th wrestling coach in Nebraska history, finishing with a 95-51 dual record in his seven seasons with the Huskers from 1978-85. Fehrs helped transform the Nebraska wrestling squad into a perennial powerhouse, as the Huskers finished in the top six in the nation in his last three seasons in Lincoln. Fehrs coached 12 Huskers to All-America accolades, while being named Big Eight Coach of hte Year in 1981 and 1982. Fehrs' finished his career with a .651 winning percentage, the highest of any NU coach to that date.
Prior to coming to Nebraska, Fehrs was the head coach at Northern Michigan from late 1974 to the spring of 1978. While at Northern Michigan, Fehrs compiled a 36-8 dual meet record and produced eight NCAA Division II All-Americans. He led the Wildcats to a best-ever sixth-place finish in the NCAA Division II tournament. For his accomplishments, he was voted the conference Coach of the Year and nominated for Coach of the Year on the national level.
Fehrs attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor where his wrestling record was 67-6-1. Three times he was the NCAA runner-up in his weight class and three times a Big Ten champion. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1967.
