Todd Beckerman Season 2000-01

NCAA Championships
2001-Beckerman posted a 4-2 record 133 pounds at the 2001 NCAA Championships to finish fourth and claim his second consecutive All-America honor. Third-seeded Beckerman opened with two major decisions, earning a 14-5 win over Cleveland State's Nick Boucher and a 19-6 victory against Oregon State's Ben Richards. Beckerman topped 11th-seeded David Douglas of Arizona State, 2-0, in the quarterfinals, but lost a 4-3 decision to second-seeded Johnny Thompson of Oklahoma State in the semifinals. Beckerman bounced back with a 3-2 decision over No. 4 Pat McNamara of Michigan State, but ended his career with a 4-3 loss to Oklahoma's Witt Durden.

2000-After a second-place finish at the Big 12 Championships, Beckerman earned a No. 7 seed at the NCAA Championships and an eventual fifth-place finish at 133 pounds. In the first round, Beckerman defeated Brett Lawrence of Minnesota, 10-7. Beckerman moved on to the quarterfinals with a 6-4 decision over 10th-seeded Rob Loper of Pittsburgh. Beckerman used two reversals, along with a two-point nearfall, to advance. In the quarterfinals, Iowa State's second-seeded Cody Sanderson continued to have Beckerman's number with a 12-2 major decision victory. Sanderson, who was the eventual runner-up at 133 pounds, had defeated Beckerman in the two previous meetings.

Beckerman earned his first career All-America honor with a 7-2 win over Kelly Revells of Eastern Illinois. He  then pinned Mike Coyle of James Madison 1:59 into the match, giving the Huskers two bonus team points. In the consolation semifinals, Beckerman fell to fourth-seeded Joe Warren of Michigan, 12-4. Beckerman bounced back to take fifth place by defeating third-seeded Pat McNamara of Michigan State, 8-2. McNamara spent most of the season ranked second.

1997-Beckerman entered the tournament unseeded and drew top-seeded Sheldon Thomas of Clarion in the opening round. Beckerman lost to Thomas, who went on to finish third, by technical fall, 17-0. Beckerman dropped into the consolation round, where he posted a 5-3 decision over Tony Mendez of Millersville. Beckerman ended the NCAA Championships by losing a 12-3 major decision to No. 10 Brandon Paulson of Minnesota. Beckerman finished the tournament 1-2.

Big 12 Championships
2001-Beckerman defeated Oklahoma's Witt Durden, 6-2, in the semifinals, but lost to Oklahoma State's Johnny Thompson in the final, 3-2, to place second.

2000-Second-seeded Beckerman had to face Oklahoma State's Charles Walker in the first round. Walker had handed Beckerman two losses in three previous matchups. Behind the home crowd at the Bob Devaney Sports Center, Beckerman defeated Walker, 4-2, to advance to the finals. In the finals, Cody Sanderson of Iowa State defeated Beckerman for the second time in less than two weeks, as Beckerman finished second.

1999-As an unseeded participant, Beckerman competed in the consolation final after defeating Missouri's Mark Bader, 7-3, in the first round and losing to top-seeded Eric Guerrero of Oklahoma State by technical fall, 16-1. In the consolations, Beckerman lost to third-seeded Dane Valdez of Oklahoma, 7-2. For the second time in his career, Beckerman finished fourth at the conference championships.

1997-Beckerman entered the Big 12 Championships unseeded and defeated Missouri's Brooks Travis, 5-2, in the opening round. He advanced to the semifinals, where he lost by pin to Oklahoma State's Teague Moore in 3:33. In the consolation final, Beckerman dropped an 11-3 major decision to third-seeded Cody Sanderson of Iowa State. Beckerman finished fourth in the tournament, but received a wild card selection to the NCAA Championships.

Career Notes
2001-Beckerman posted a 25-6 record, including 15-2 in duals, to finish his career with a 98-49 overall record. He notched a team-leading seven pins and team-leading seven major decisions during the year, while finishing second on the team in dual points with 66.

2000-Beckerman earned his first career All-America honor and posted a 31-10 record in his junior season. After a slow start in the season opener against Lock Haven, Beckerman bounced back with a vengeance by winning 10 consecutive matches, including first-place showings at the Cornell Classic on Nov. 20 and Sheridan Tournament on Dec. 4.

Beckerman posted a 10-9 record against ranked opponents. The Crofton, Md., native came up big for the Huskers on Jan. 29 against Northern Iowa, as he pinned Chad Bourdreaux in 2:35 to score six crucial team points in a 20-20 dual tie. At the Big 12 Championships, Beckerman got over the hump with a 4-2 victory over Oklahoma State's No. 7 Charles Walker, who had defeated Beckerman in three previous matchups. Beckerman was the team leader in major decisions with 11.

1999-Beckerman completed his sophomore year with a 19-16 record and a 13-10 dual mark. Beckerman faced a team-leading 12 ranked opponents during the season, including Oklahoma State's top-ranked Eric Guerrero three times. He won seven of his last 13 matches, with four of the losses to the first-, fourth-, eight- and 18th ranked wrestlers in the nation. At the National Duals, Beckerman posted a 3-3 record against competition that included three wrestlers ranked among the top five. Nine of Beckerman's 10 dual losses were to wrestlers ranked in the top 18.

1998-Beckerman redshirted behind NCAA qualifier Jeramie Welder at 126 pounds and competed in open tournaments. Beckerman finished his redshirt season with a 12-6 mark, which included seven pins and two major decisions. He finished third at the Harold Nichols Cyclone Open and the Brand Open. Beckerman was also a Junior World champion in freestyle during the summer of 1998.

1997-Beckerman finished 23-17 overall and 6-9 in dual action as a true freshman. He posted a 4-3 record at 126 pounds in open tournaments. He won two matches by pin, four by technical fall and three by major decision. He lost six matches to wrestlers ranked in the top five nationally. He finished first at the Kaufman-Brand Open, first at the Wilkes Open, second at the Harold Nichols Cyclone Open and second at the Great Plains Invitational.

Before Nebraska-Beckerman posted an amazing 208-1 record during his prep career, including 187 consecutive wins and a national-record 43 straight tournament wins for Coach Dick Messier at DeMatha Catholic High School. Beckerman was a first-team Asics All-American and captured third place at Junior Nationals in 1994. He was a Cadet National champion in 1993 and a runner-up in 1994. He was a member of the USA Dream Team and earned a spot in the Dapper Dan Team Classic. Along with four wrestling letters, Beckerman also earned two letters in soccer in high school.

Personal-The son of Paul and Meg Beckerman, Todd has one brother, Kyle. Todd is a family consumer sciences major.
