NCAA Championships
1995
-Baer went 4-2 at the NCAA Championships to earn his first career All-America honor with a fifth-place finish. The third seed, Baer posted a 4-1 decision over Millersville's Jim Schopf and topped Illinois' Brian Stewart with a 9-6 decision, before pinning 11th-seeded Tim Harris of Minnesota in 6:35. Baer dropped a 9-3 decision to second-seeded Sanshiro Abe of Penn State and a 5-3 decision to seventh-seeded Glenn Nieradka of Oregon State, but claimed an 8-0 major decision over Harris for fifth.

1994-Baer posted a 3-2 record at the NCAA meet, falling one win short of All-America status. He entered the meet unseeded, but upended 10th-seed Dontae Smith of Morgan State in the first round, 12-8. Baer dropped a hard-fought 6-4 decision to seventh-seeded Chris Russo of Indiana in the second round. He bounced back with two consolation victories before being eliminated by top-seeded Nick Purler of Oklahoma State, 9-3.

Conference Championships
1995
-Baer claimed an 8-7 decision over Iowa State's Dwight Hinson to claim his first career Big Eight title. He was one of four Huskers to earn individual crowns, as Nebraska won the team title also.

1994-Baer was the second seed, but lost a 13-4 semifinal decision to Oklahoma All-American Shawn Harrison. Baer rebounded to defeat Iowa State's Ken Hron 4-1 for third place.

Career Notes
1995
-Baer notched a 35-7 overall record, including 11-3 in duals, during the 1994-95 season. He earned 48 dual points courtesy of 45 dual takedowns, while finishing the season with nine pins, three technical falls and 11 major decisions. His fastest pin of the season was 44 seconds.

1994-Baer was one of the Huskers most consistent performers in his first season at Nebraska. After transferring from the University of Minnesota, he compiled a 27-17 overall record with 13 of his 17 losses coming against nationally-ranked opponents, including seven against opponents ranked first or second. Baer jumped into the rankings in late January after an impressive two-week stretch that included a 6-4 overtime upset of Indiana's seventh-ranked Russo and a heart-breaking 11-9 overtime loss against OSU's No. 1 Purler. He posted a dual record of 8-10 on the season, while finishing second at the Wyoming and Great Plains opens, third at the Omaha Open and sixth at the Las Vegas Invitational.

Before Nebraska-Baer wrestled for the University of Minnesota his first three years. He redshirted the 1990-91 season, posted a 16-8 record in 1991-92 and notched a 17-4 record as the Golden Gophers' starter during the 1992-93 campaign.

Personal-The son of William and Judy Baer, Steve is majoring in journalism. Steve's brother Todd was also a member of the Nebraska wrestling team.
