Wrestling at Devaney

Scott Gonyo transferred to Nebraska for his senior season after Drake dropped their program following the 1993 season. He lettered for the Huskers in 1994, after placing sixth at the NCAA championships and becoming an All-American. 

1993 - Gonyo qualified for the NCAA Championships and entered the meet as the No. 11 seed at 118. He  won his opening match and finished the meet with a 2-1 record where he rolled to his second WAC title, winning each of his three matches by at least six points and was named the Outstanding Wrestler of the meet. Gonyo finished the season with an overall mark of 38-8 and a dual record of 18-3. He had a 13-match win streak from mid-January to late February and placed third at the Northern Open, Midwest Championships and Northern Iowa Open. 

1992 - Redshirted and was 14-1 in open meets.

1991 - Qualified for the NCAA Championships at 118 pounds. He had an overall mark of 46-10 to tie the Drake school record for victories in a season. He won the WAC title at 118 and posted a 30-2 dual record, recording 16 pins. Gonyo won titles at the Bulldog and Maverick Opens.

1990 - Named Drake's Outstanding Newcomer named to the Freshman All-Star wrestling squad by Amateur Wrestling News. He had an overall record of 38-10 and a dual record of 24-3. He finished fourth at the NCAA West Regionals.

Other - Named to the 1989 Scholastic All-America Wrestling Team by Wrestling USA Magazine, two-time Florida Class 3A state champion at Fort Myers High. He had an 86-14 high school record, including 43 pins and was named sixth-team All-America by Amateur Wrestling News.
