2006-Davis took over Nebraska’s starter at 149 pounds late in the first semester and split time with Robert Sanders as NU’s wrestler at 149 pounds as he wrestled to a 7-7 mark on the season with a 3-7 dual record.
With an 149-pound championship at the UNK Loper Open on Dec. 10, Davis made a strong debut to the mat for the Huskers. Davis won three of his four matches at the UNK Loper Open by fall or technical fall. After a loss at the Nebraska Duals in his first dual match for the Huskers, Davis defeated George Hickman of Bloomsburg by technical fall and Virginia Tech’s Joe Thompson by fall in his first two matches of the second semester.
Davis faced four of the top six wrestlers in his weight class at the National Duals. Davis picked up a win over Tom Kniezewski of American, 12-6, on Jan. 21. Davis finished 0-1 in Big 12 duals.
Before Nebraska-Davis was 10-1 in open competition for the Cowboys with one win by fall and two each by major decision and technical fall. <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Davis finished the season with seven straight wins, including two by major decision. At BlairAcademyHigh School, Davis was a part of two teams ranked No. 1 in the nation. Davis was a three-time national prep champion, an Asics first-team All-American at 145 pounds and was ranked No. 1 in the nation at 145 pounds in 2003. A two-time Beast of the East and two-time Ironman champion, Davis wrestled to a 155-8 career mark in high school and was a finalist for the Dave Schultz High School Excellence award.
Personal-Ryan Davis, the son of William Davis and Lydia Hinson, was born April 14, 1985 in Long Beach, Calif. He has one sister, Erin, 19. Davis was an economics major at Nebraska.
