Career Notes
2009-Cotton posted a 3-1 record in one open tournament during the 2008-09 season, before several minor injuries derailed his redshirt season. Cotton claimed three straight wins, including two major decisions, before losing to Husker teammate Vince Jones in the final, 8-2, to place second at the Kaufman-Brand Open on Nov. 22.

Before Nebraska-Cotton was a 10-time state champion for Class 6A Hutchinson High School. Wrestling for Coach Mike Garcia, he claimed four state titles with a 137-11 career record, rolling to a 72-0 record over his final two seasons. Cotton added four more championships from his running back position in football and was a two-time power lifting state champion. He was voted an all-state selection four times in wrestling and twice in football.

He was the 2006 Cadet National champion in freestyle and Greco-Roman and earned the No. 7 national ranking at 189 pounds according to InterMat.

The son of James Cotton, Romero was born March 6, 1990, in Hutchinson, Kan. He has one brother, Jamon. Romero has not declared a major at Nebraska.
