Career Notes
2009-Sanders posted a 4-7 mark while wrestling in three open tournaments and one dual in 2008-09. Sanders claimed 1-2 marks at the Harold Nichols Cyclone Open on Nov. 15 and Kaufman-Brand Open on Nov. 22, before going 2-2 at the Dana Open on Jan. 3. He moved up a weight class to 157 pounds to make his one dual apperance of the year on Jan. 18. He lost a 4-3 decision to South Dakota State’s Weston Blasius.
2008-Sanders went 8-11 at 157 pounds in five open tournaments during his freshman season. His year was highlighted by a 3-2 showing at the Bob Smith Open on Dec. 1. Sanders notched his one fall of the season at the tournament by pinning Hastings’ Robert Rentfro in 4:45.
Sanders also placed sixth at the Dana Open on Jan. 5, notching an 11-9 win over Nebraska-Omaha’s Steve Clayberg and an 8-3 decision over Dana’s Jason Bilinski.
2007-Sanders went 3-8 in his first year at Nebraska. After losing the first two matches of his Husker career at the Kaufman-Brand Open, Sanders went 1-2 at the UNI Open, the Dana College Open and the Glen Brand Open.
Before Nebraska-Sanders was a three-time state champion for Blanding San Juan High School in Blanding, Utah, as he wrestled for his father and coach, Robert Sanders. Paul finished off his high school career with a 52-2 senior season and the state championship at 152 pounds. A four-time state finalist, Sanders finished his high school career with a 166-11 record.
Personal
The son of Robert and Leslie Sanders, Paul was born on Feb. 12, 1988. He has one sister, Jennifer, and one brother, Robert, who is a senior on the Nebraska wrestling team. Paul is a computer science major at Nebraska.
