Matt Nelson Season 2004-05

2005-After starting the year winning five of his first seven matches, Nelson finished the season with a 13-11 record.  The 141-pound wrestler battled to a 5-2 record at the Kaufman-Brand Open on Nov. 20 in <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Omaha, Neb.  After back-to-back 1-2 performances at the UNI Open Dec. 4 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and the UNK Runza Loper Open Dec. 11, Nelson finished with a 3-2 mark at the Beamon Open in Blair, Neb., on Jan. 8.  Nelson went 1-2 at 141 pounds at the Brand Open Jan. 15 in Omaha, Neb., and finished the year with a 2-2 performance at the Great Plains Open Jan. 29 in Lincoln, Neb.

Before Nebraska-Nelson was a three-time state champion at WayneHigh School.  He holds the records for most takedowns in both a season and a career, and most wins in a season and career at Wayne.

 

Personal-Matt, the son of Marta and Ray Nelson, was born in Wayne, Neb. on March 7, 1986.  He has two brothers, Jeremy, 26, and the late Dan.  Matt did not declare a major.
