2011-12 Outlook
Keith Surber will provide solid depth behind junior Ridge Kiley at 133 pounds in 2011-12. The talented redshirt freshman won 13 matches last season, including his last four to capture a title at the Briar Cliff Open. Surber finished his year with two pins, two technical falls and three major decisions.

Regular Season
Surber began the season with a 3-4 record through his first two tournaments before taking third at the Quality Hotel Open to begin a streak of impressive finishes for the 133-pounder. Surber followed the third-place finish with a fourth-place showing at the Brand Open, where he defeated Josh Keszler from Nebraska-Omaha and NU teammate Ryan Pohlman. Surber moved up a weight class to 141 pounds for the last tournament of the season at the Briar Cliff Open, where he won all four matches to win an individual title. Surber finished the year with a 13-7 overall mark, with two pins, two technical falls and three major decisions.
Before Nebraska
Surber won the NHSAA Senior National Championships and Illinois Class 3A state title to wrap up an outstanding career at O'Fallon High School. A four-time Southwestern Conference all-league selection, Surber was 181-9 during his prep days. The first-team All-American was named the St. Clair County Journal Male Athlete of the Year in 2009-10. He earned four letters in wrestling.
Surber was also named to the Honor Roll and volunteered his time as a member of the National Honor Society.
Personal
Keith is the son of Barry Surber and Jill Monroe. He was born on Feb. 2, 1992 in O'Fallon, Ill., and has an older brother, Kyle. Keith is majoring in biology.
