NCAA Championships
1993 - Seeded No. 9, Buxton secured a seventh-place finish to grab his first All-American honors in his senior season. Buxton defeated Donnell Rawls, 7-5, of Appalachian State to bring him to the seventh-place match where David Land had to medically forfeit. Buxton finished with 85 career victories.
1992 - Did not compete due to injury.
1991- Seeded No. 9 and finished his first national meet with a 3-2 mark and one major decision. He lost a close 8-8/2-0 overtime decision to No. 8 Eric Akin of Iowa State in the third round and was sent to the consolation bracket. Buxton finished the meet with a 3-2 record and wrestled four of his five matches on the first day.
1990 - Qualified as a freshman, but did not wrestle.

Big Eight Championships
1993 - Buxton helped NU to its first Big Eight title after falling to Eric Akin of Iowa State in overtime, 2-1 to place second.
1992- Expected to be a top contender for championship honors, Buxton missed the meet due to injury.
1991- Entered the meet as the defending champion at 118 and the No. 1 seed, but was upset in his repeat bid by eventual champion and All-American Sam Henson of Missouri. Buxton lost to Henson in an overtime semifinal bout when he was called for stalling 38 seconds into the sudden-death period. He came back in a big way with a 10-4 win over ninth-ranked Nick Purler of Oklahoma State for third place.
1990- Turned in an outstanding performance en route to the conference title and outstanding wrestler honors for the meet (shared with Oklahoma's Joe Reynolds). Buxton opened the meet with a 2-2/3-2 overtime win over Oklahoma State's then eighth-ranked Tony Purler to move into the finals, it was his first win over Purler in three tries. He dominated defending champion and second-ranked Chris Bollin 10-1, with 2:06 riding time, in the title match and became only the second Husker ever to win outstanding wrestler honors (Johnnie Selmon won the award twice, 1981 and 1982), claiming Nebraska's first-ever 118-pound titlist.

Season Notes
1993 - The senior from Spearfish, S.D., grabbed a title at the UNO Open and two second-place finishes at the Wyoming Open and Great Plains Open. Buxton ended his senior season with a 27-10 record and 5-1 in dual competition, posting a 85-33-4 career mark. 
1992 - Buxton opened the season in impressive fashion, compiling a 6-3 record, but was injured in the semifinals of the Las Vegas Invitational against Shawn Charles of Arizona State. He was ranked No. 8 at the time of his injury and 1-1 vs. ranked opponents. Buxton claimed first-team Phillips 66 Academic All-Big Eight.
1991- Topped the 20-win mark for the second-straight year, ranking No. 6 in the preseason and was seventh for much of the year. Buxton claimed Big Eight Wrestler-of-the-Week (Dec. 10) after handing Nick Purler, then ranked No. 4, his first loss of the season (9-5, Dec. 8). He won seven of his first eight matches and had a season-best seven-match win streak, earning first-team Phillips 66 Academic All-Big Eight..
1990 - Buxton was named Second-Team Amateur Wrestling News Freshman All-Star behind Tony Purler at 118. He won the Wyoming Open Champion and earned Big Eight Wrestler-of-the-Week honors after a 4-0 win over then-No. 11 Cale Sponsler of Iowa State on Dec. 16. His 28 wins were the second-most ever recorded by a newcomer to the NU lineup (teammate Corey Olson won 35 in 1990), helping him claim Phillips 66 Academic All-Big Eight.
Other - A first-team member of USA Wrestling's High School Dream Team and second-team high school All-American selection by AWN. He won three South Dakota state titles during his prep career and placed third as a sophomore, finishing his prep career at Spearfish High School with a 159-7 record that included 93 pins.
Personal - Son of John and Jane Buxton, majoring in computer science.
