Jim Scherr captured the 177-pound national title at the 1984 NCAA Championships alongside his brother Bill Scherr, becoming Nebraska’s first duo to win an NCAA title in the same year. Jim earned Nebraska’s second NCAA title, defeating Duane Goldman of Iowa. Scherr put together an impressive senior season with a 35-2-1 record, helping Nebraska to its second-highest finish ever. He finished his career at Nebraska with 109 wins from 1980 to 1984, joining NU’s 100-win club. He was also a two-time All-American and 1984 Big Eight champion.
Scherr continued his wrestling career on the international stage, earning three medals across the Olympic Games and FILA World Championships. He remained involved with the Olympics through 2008 and is now the CEO of 776 Original Marketing.
