2010-11 (Redshirt Freshman)
Regular Season
Gubbels had a strong redshirt freshman campaign which saw him garner 16 victories and five top four finishes at open tournaments.  Gubbels' first action of the season came in the Huskers' dual victory over Northern Colorado, where he fell to the Bears' Brandon Kammerzell by decision, 8-3. After the loss, Gubbels responded with two fourth-place finishes at the UNK Loper Open and the Viking-Warrior Open, before capturing second at the Quality Hotel Open. Gubbels closed the season wrestling in top form by winning nine of his last 11 matches in route to third-place finishes at the Grand View Open and the Briar Cliff Open. Gubbels ended the year with eight bonus-point victories, including three pins and four major decisions.

2009-10 (Redshirt)
Regular Season
Gubbels was 18-7 in his first year of collegiate wrestling. He had 10 bonus-point victories, including six major decisions, second among the redshirts behind Caleb Kolb (8). Gubbels ended the season strong with a first-place finish at the Glen Brand Open in Omaha as he cruised to a 3-0 record. A week earlier, he finished third at the Quality Hotel Open in Hastings with a 6-1 mark, while also claiming third at the UNK Loper Open in Kearney with a 5-1 showing.

Before Nebraska
Gubbels won the 2009 Class D Nebraska state championship at 160 pounds in a perfect 39-0 campaign for Randolph High School. Gubbels never lost more than three matches in a single season and finished in the top three at the Nebraska state meet all four years en route to an impressive 135-8 career record.

A four-time first-team all-conference pick, Gubbels also lettered four times in track and field and twice in football.

Personal
Jerad is the son of Bill and Joan Gubbels and was born on May 1, 1991 in Osmond, Neb. He has two older brothers, Casey and Kyle, who lettered for the Husker wrestling team in 2003 and 2004. Jerad is a mechanized systems management major at Nebraska.
