Kelber had one of the best careers in the history of Nebraska wrestling, which he capped with an NCAA title at 126 pounds in 1991. He earned first-team NWCA Academic All-America honors in 1991. Kelber also won a Big Eight title for the Huskers as a senior while being names Outstanding Wrestler at the Big Eight Tournament. The State Center, Iowa, native claimed three NCAA All-America awards, taking second at 126 pounds at the 1990 NCAA Championships and sixth in 1989. Kelber was a four-time letterwinner while also lettering four times. (1987, 89, 90, 91)

Kelber finished his career ranked in the top 10 in all of Nebraska's career record categories, including third on the all-time win list with a 123-30-0 record from 1987 to 1991. He ranked third in career dual victories with 59 and fifth in career falls with 47.

At West Marshall High School, Kelber was undefeated sophomore through senior year. After a runner-up finish as a freshman (98 llbs), he claimed three Iowa Class 2A state championships and was a four-time state finalist.

Kelber earned his bachelor's degree in biological sciences in 1991. He and his wife, Renee, have two daughters, McKenzie and Madison, and a son, Jordan.
