• Wrestled at Lincoln High School in Lincoln, Neb. for coach Andy Genrich
• Junior year went undefeated 48-0 and was the Class A state champion at 170 pounds
• Senior year went 49-1 en route to a second Class A state championship at 170 pounds
• Two-time All-State wrestler 
• Two-time All-City First Team member
• Two-time Nebraska Wrestler of the Year
• Also played football in high school
