2006-A 4-2 performance at the Harold Nichols Open on Nov. 12 highlighted Gregg Romano’s second season at <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Nebraska. Romano, who finished the year 4-5, ran off four straight wins in the consolation bracket including two by fall and two others by major decision.
2005-Romano assembled an impressive 10-4 mark with a pair of third-place finishes in three open tournaments in his first season of college wrestling. After a 2-2 mark in the UNK Runza Loper Open, Romano won five of six matches at the Beamon Open in Blair, Neb., to finish third at 141 pounds. He followed that with a third-place finish at the Great Plains Open with three wins in four matches.
Before Nebraska-Romano won four state championships at 140 pounds for Coach Jeff Buxton at BlairAcademy in New Jersey. Blair won four team national championships during Romano’s four years, and Romano was a national champion and finished as the national runner-up twice in a high school career in which he wrestled to a record of 148-21. For his efforts, Romano was named a USA Wrestling Magazine All-American.
Personal-The son of Carol and Jim Romano, Gregg was born Jan. 13, 1986. He has one brother, James. Gregg did not declare a major.
