Career Notes
2002-Kirgan went 4-6, including 0-4 in duals, at 174 pounds during the 2001-02 season.
2001-Kirgan redshirted, putting together a 7-2 record in open tournaments before a knee injury ended his season. Kirgan took third at the Central Missouri State Open on Nov. 12, and sixth at the UNO Kaufman-Brand Open on Nov. 20. Last summer, Kirgan took fifth in the Greco-Roman FILA Junior World Team Trials in Lincoln.
Before Nebraska-Kirgan compiled a career record of 178-20 and earned high school All-America honors while wrestling for his father, Allen Kirgan, at Granite City High School. An all-state selection in both 1999 and 2000, Kirgan led Granite City to a fourth-place team finish in 1999. At the prestigious High School Nationals, Kirgan finished sixth in 1999. He also was a freestyle All-American in 1997 and 2000, finishing second and seventh, respectively. Also in 1997, Kirgan was a Cadet World Trials champion.
Personal-The son of Allen and Josephine Kirgan, George has one sister, Alicia. George was born on Oct. 8, 1981. He is a pre-education major.
