Dusty Spaulding Season 2004-05

2003-Spaulding opened with a first-round victory over <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Missouri’s J.P. Reese, 3-2, before suffering three straight losses to Oklahoma’s Teyon Ware, 12-6, Reese, 12-2, and Aaron Holker of IowaState, 8-2.

 

2002-Spaulding suffered two straight losses at the Big 12 Championships.  In the first round, OklahomaState’s Ronnie Delk defeated Spaulding, 4-2, in sudden victory.  Oklahoma’s Nate Parker ousted Spaulding with a 12-2 victory in the consolation semifinals.

 

2001-Spaulding struggled in his first Big 12 Championship appearance, going 0-2 in Stillwater, Okla.  In the first round, Missouri’s J.P. Reese defeated Spaulding, 5-3.  IowaState’s Zack Roberson proved to be too much for Spaulding in the consolation semifinal, as Roberson prevailed, 12-3.

Career Notes

2005-Spaulding did not appear in a match for Nebraska during the 2004-05 season.

 

2004-Spaulding redshirted in his third year in the program.

 

2003-Despite missing two and a half months of action with a knee injury, Spauling managed a 7-10 overall record and a 3-5 dual mark. Though Spaulding went 0-4 in conference matches, he nearly upset fourth-ranked Aaron Holker of IowaState, losing on the riding time point.  Spaulding fell to Teyon Ware of Oklahoma, 7-0, despite wrestling him to scoreless first and second periods.

 

2002-In his second season as a starter, Spaulding finished with a 15-14 overall record. Spaulding began the season winning 10 of his first 12 matches, with close losses to both second-ranked Chad Erikson of Minnesota and top-ranked Eric Larkin of ArizonaState. Spaulding recorded a 1-5 mark against ranked opponents and placed second at the Worthington Open, fifth at the UNI Open and added a sixth-place finish at the Kaufman Brand Open.  Spaulding posted a 10-2 upset victory over then-No. 13 Grant Hoerr of Wisconsin at the Lone Star Duals.

 

2001-Spaulding held his own in 2001 as NU’s starter at 141 pounds.  He posted a 12-14 record, including a first-place finish at the Roger Denker Open at CentralMissouriState on Jan. 13, when Spaulding suffered a hairline fracture of his clavicle.  Spaulding recorded an 0-9 record against ranked wrestlers.

 

Before Nebraska-A high school All-American, Spaulding was rated as the nation’s No. 2 recruit at 135 pounds.  He earned the honors by winning four state titles at EmporiaHigh School while compiling a 131-8 career record.  Spaulding was named the Dave Schultz Award winner, awarded to the top wrestler in the state, his senior season. In the summer of 2000, Spaulding took third place at Junior Greco-Roman Nationals.

 

Personal-The son of Fred and Judy Spaulding, Dusty has two brothers, Davin, 21, and Carson, 14.   Dusty was born on Dec. 22, 1981. Spaulding is a nutrition, fitness and health promotion major.
