Regular Season
Cory Brester placed in all nine open tournaments that he competed in as a redshirt in the 184-pound weight class, compiling a 28-16 record. Brester's top finishes came with second-place showings at the Nebraska-Kearney Holiday Inn Open and the Viking-Warrior Open. His 14 pins ranked No. 2 on the team.
In the classroom, Brester earned spots on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in both the fall and spring semesters.
Before Nebraska
Brester ended his career at Howells by winning 84 consecutive matches through his last two seasons en route to two Class D state championships. Brester won the 189-pound state championship as a senior, going 44-0 and defeated fellow undefeated wrestler Justin Romeo of Medicine Valley in the state finals, 7-1. As a junior, Brester improved on his runner-up finish as a sophomore to claim the title at 171 pounds and finished with another perfect record at 40-0. The Howells native was one of the most dominant wrestlers in the state of Nebraska, pinning 98 of his opponents during his career and was named the NSWCA Outstanding Wrestler of the Year in Class D as a senior. Brester finished in fourth place in the state as a freshman at 145 pounds. Brester was also a four-year letterwinner in football and participated in the annual Nebraska Shrine Bowl after his senior season.
Personal
The son of Dan and Denise Brester, Cory was born on Oct. 22, 1992, in West Point, Neb. Brester has three sisters, Christy, Cheryl and Connie along with two brothers Craig and Chad. Cory's brother, Craig (2005-10), was a three-time All-American at Nebraska and currently serves as the administrative assistant on the wrestling staff. Cory is majoring in agronomy at Nebraska.
