Bill Scherr is a prominent member of Nebraska's 100-win club and was the first Husker to reach the milestone, compiling 133 victories from 1980 to 1984. He also became the program’s first three-time All-American. Scherr captured the 190-pound national title at the 1984 NCAA Championships alongside his brother, Jim Scherr, marking Nebraska’s first duo to win NCAA titles in the same year. He capped a dominant senior season with a 36-1 record, tying for the sixth-most wins in a single season, and was also a two-time Big Eight champion.
On the world stage, Scherr earned a gold medal at the 1985 FILA World Championships, followed by silver in 1986 and bronze medals in 1987 and 1989. As an Olympian, he claimed a bronze medal in freestyle wrestling at the 1988 Summer Games. Following his wrestling career, Scherr transitioned into the business world and now serves as a vice president of a global investment banking and securities firm.
