2009-10 Outlook
Alex Ward can contend for a starting role this season at 165 pounds. He has continued to progress through three years in the Nebraska program and could have a breakout season in 2009-10.

2008-09
Regular Season
Ward posted a 9-5 overall mark, including 3-1 in duals, while wrestling for the Huskers in 2008-09. He notched a 3-2 record at the Harold Nichols Cyclone Open on Nov. 15, and followed with an 8-3 decision over Marcus Edgington in NU's dual with Augustana on Nov. 28.

Ward went 3-2 to finish fifth at the Dana Open on Jan. 3, before assisting Nebraska to dual wins over South Dakota State and UNC Greensboro. Ward posted an 11-0 major decision against SDSU's Weston Ginther and topped the Spartan's Victor Hojilla 8-6. Ward ended his season with a 19-7 loss to No. 18 Duke Burk at 174 pounds in NU's dual with Iowa State on Feb. 22.

2007-08
Regular Season
Ward began his freshman year with a 5-9 record at 165 pounds in four open tournaments, but he rebounded with a 10-2 mark at the Dana and Brand opens to finish the season with a 15-11 record.

Ward's campaign was highlighted by a season-ending 7-1 effort to finish third at the Brand Open on Jan. 19. Ward lost a 7-6 decision to Iowa State's Andrew Sorenson in the second round, but followed with six wins, and defeated Sorenson in the consolation bracket to claim third.

Ward also made his first career dual appearance against Dana on Dec. 15. He lost a 5-2 decision to Ryan Tuzon, but gained valuable experience. Ward finished the season with two pins, one technical fall and one major decision.

2006-07
Regular Season
Ward finished 16-11 in his first year wrestling at Nebraska, including a sixth-place finish at the Kaufman-Brand Open on Nov. 18.

Ward went 3-2 at the Harold Nichols Open on Nov. 11, running off three straight wins in the consolation bracket after a first-round loss. He went 5-3 at the Kaufman-Brand Open one week later.

Before Nebraska
Ward was a member of three state championship teams at Mt. St. Joseph's Prep for Coach Kirk Salvo. With a career record of 130-36, Ward closed his high school career as a co-captain and state champion in his senior year with a 45-7 record. Mt. St. Joseph's placed second as a team at state.

Personal
The son of Kelly and Tammy Ward, Alex was born Oct. 1, 1987, in Des Moines, Iowa. His father, Kelly, was a national champion at Iowa State in 1979 and a former Nebraska assistant coach. Alex has one brother, Ben. Alex is a communication studies major at Nebraska.
