Senior 2018-19:

Marina Cozac competed at the No. 3 and No. 4 singles positions for each of the 27 dual meets this spring. nine of her matches went unfinished, but she finished with an 8-10 record, including a 5-5 mark in Big Ten play.

 

She went 11-11 in doubles play this spring, competing with Elizabeth Gould, Jeannie Lozowski and Vasanti Shinde. Cozac and Shinde went 10-8 together this season, playing exclusively out of the No. 1 doubles spot.

 

Cozac started off her senior year fall with a bang, coming away with a perfect 3-0 record at the Minnesota Invite Sept. 21-23. She finished 3-3 in her six doubles matches with partner Elizabeth Gould.

 

At the ITA Regionals in Iowa City, Iowa from Oct. 12-15, Cozac performed admirably once again. She won her first two singles matches to qualify for the 128-player bracket, but fell in the first round in a thriller, 2-6, (7-6), 6-2. She then won her next two matches in the consolation bracket before losing in the quarterfinals, effectively ending her fall season in singles play. The senior posted a team-best 7-2 singles record as she heads into the spring season. Cozac and Elizabeth Gould lost their only doubles match at the ITA Regionals, ending the fall with a 3-4 record as a pair.

 

2017-18 Junior:
In her first season after transferring from DePaul University in Chicago, Ill., Cozac made an immediate impact on the Husker lineup. 

 

As one of four juniors on the roster, Cozac found great success during her first fall invitational season with the team. The Chicago native recorded an 11-10 overall record while competing in all three of the Big Red's scheduled fall invitationals.

 

During the spring season, Cozac only competed in two duals, but came away with wins for the team on both occasions. Once in the singles category and the other coming with doubles partner Katerina Matysova in a doubles victory against South Dakota.

 

Before Nebraska:
Cozac amassed a total 11 combined wins in 2016-17, winning five singles matches while going 6-5 in doubles action. As a freshman, Cozac posted a 17-8 overall singles record playing out of the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, including a 1-0 record vs. ranked opponents for DePaul University. Cozac also combined for a 17-11 doubles record. Not only did Cozac accumulate 45 overall victories during her time at DePaul, but she also demonstrated a great passion for the game. Marina was named the Big East Women's Tennis Player of the Week on February 3, 2016. Cozac graduated from Indiana University High School in 2015. 

Personal:
Marina was born on Nov. 23, 1998 in Pleasonton, Calif. She was a mathematics major with a concentration in statistics and earned her bachelor's degree from Nebraska in May of 2019. She was a first-team CoSIDA Academic All-District 7 At-Large selection in 2019. She was also an Academic All-Big Ten honoree. Cozac is a four-time Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll selection with a perfect 4.0 GPA. She spent the summer of 2018 working on internships in data analytics and category management. She was a member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team in 2018 and 2019.
