Team 2001-02 Nebraska Women's Basketball

2001-02 (Sophomore)
Howell provided the Huskers with consistency in scoring through the season, ranking third on the team with 9.0 points and 2.0 rebounds.  Howell started 29 out of NU's 30 games, averaging 25.6 minutes per game.

Howell did not return to the Huskers after her sophomore season.  She transferred to Oregon State.

2000-01 (Freshman)
Despite being a true freshman, Howell was one of NU's most productive players during the 2000-01 season.  She ranked second on the team in scoring, averaging 8.8 points and 2.7 rebounds per game.  She also led the Huskers with 3.1 assists and 1.3 steals per contest. Howell started 21 of the 28 games she played in, averaging 25.8 mintues per game.

Howell ranked in the top 10 of the Big 12 with her 79.4 percent free throw shooting, connecting on 77 of 97 attempts. 

High School
Howell was rated as the No. 2 point guard in the state of California and the No. 15 point guard in the nation, while averaging 27.5 points, 8.0 assists and 3.2 steals per game as a senior for Coach Felicia Simon at St. Bernard High School.

In addition to being invited to the adidas/Coaches All-Star Game in Knoxville, Tenn., during the summer of 2000, Howell earned first-team All-California Interscholastic Federation honors and was named the PowerBar Player of the Year for Southern California.

Howell led St. Bernard High School to a 27-5 record and a state runner-up finish in 2000. During her high school career, Howell led St. Bernard to three CIF titles and one state championship. She was also named the MVP of the CIF Championships and the Los Angeles Times Player of the Year.

Along with earning four varsity letters in basketball, Howell earned a letter in track and field and was an excellent student, earning a spot on the Dean's List with a 3.5 grade-point average.

Personal
The daughter of Bridgette Simpson and Cliff Sutton, Shannon has a younger sister, Brittany Howell, 17, and a brother, Gregory, 12. Shannon was born May 25, 1982, in Fresno, Calif. Shannon is a general studies major and has voluteered her time as a Pacific Pals youth counselor. She chose Nebraska over George Washington, DePaul, California and Oregon.
