LaDonna Unwin was a two-time letterwinner and part-time starter for Nebraska as a guard in 1979-80 and 1980-81. She enjoyed her best season as a sophomore in 1980-81, when she averaged 7.2 points and 3.3 rebounds per game.
She hit 38.6 percent of her shots from the field and 66.7 percent of her attempts at the free throw line, while appearing in all 31 of Nebraska's games. She also led the Huskers with 121 assists and ranked second on the team with 69 steals. Unwin helped the Huskers to a 23-17 overall mark under Coach Lorrie Gallagher, tying the school record for victories in a season.
Unwin was a significant contributor as a true freshman at Nebraska in 1979-80, averaging 3.4 points and 1.7 rebounds per game. She shot 41.7 percent from the field and 67.4 percent from the charity strip, while also dishing out 69 assists in 35 games. She helped NU to an 18-13 overall record in Coach Colleen Matsuhara's first season.
A Florida High School Athlete of the Year and an All-American at Orange Park High School, Unwin did not return to the team following her sophomore season.
The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Unwin, LaDonna was born Dec. 29, 1960.
