Freshman (1991-92)
A contributor during her only season at Nebraska, Sauna Witherspoon earned a letter for the Huskers after playing in 25 games as a freshman in 1991-92.

Witherspoon finished her career with 54 points and 50 rebounds, averaging 2.2 points and 2.0 rebounds per game in her first and only season with the Huskers. The 5-9 guard out of Washington High School in Kansas City, Kan., helped the Huskers to a 21-11 overall record and a trip to the National Women's Invitational Tournament in Amarillo, Texas, by averaging nearly 10 minutes per game off the bench. She appeared in 13 of NU's 14 Big Eight Conference contests to help the Huskers to a 9-5 league mark. She averaged 1.2 points and 1.8 rebounds in conference action.

She posted career-bests with 12 points, six rebounds and three assists in just 17 minutes of action in a win over Rice on Nov. 30. She matched a career high with six boards at Cal State Northridge on Jan. 4.

High School
A Street & Smith honorable-mention high school All-American and the 1991 Gatorade Circle of Champions Kansas Player of the Year, Witherspoon earned three letters each in basketball, volleyball and track at Washington High School in Kansas City. An AAU All-American, Witherspoon led her squad to a runner-up finish at AAU nationals in both 1986 and 1987. She also led Washington High School to the city championship three times, while helping the volleyball team to one city title.
