Outlook (2026-27)
A four-star recruit who was ranked No. 69 nationally by ESPN and No. 70 by 247 Sports, Ava Miles was the No. 14 shooting guard in the country by 247 Sports. The No. 3 ranked recruit in the state of Missouri, Miles committed to Nebraska in July of 2025 before signing with the Huskers in November.
"Ava is an outstanding all-around player who is going to bring energy to the court and the locker room every day," Nebraska Coach Amy Williams said. "She is a high-level communicator with the ability to create in transition and score at all three levels. She is willing to do all the little things to help her team win. Husker fans are going to love watching her energy and enthusiasm on the court."
High School
Miles led Staley High School to a Class 6 runner-up finish with a 30-2 record by averaging 14.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.8 steals per game as a junior in 2024-25. She also hit 50.1 percent of her shots from the floor, including 33.3 percent of her three-point attempts for the Falcons.
As a senior, Miles earned first-team Class 6 Girls All-State honors from the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association for the third straight season while leading Staley back to the state title game against national power Incarnate Word. The Falcons fell 50-46 to end the season with a 29-3 record under Coach Mike Bennett. Staley's only other losses during Miles' senior season came to Tulsa Lincoln Christian (48-46) and fellow Husker freshman guard Maddi Stewart in the Bill Rowe Queen City Showcase (Dec. 12), and to national power Long Island Lutheran (64-53) at the Sophie Cunningham Classic (Jan. 9).
A three-time adidas All-American, Miles was a four-time all-district and all-conference choice. She was the 2025 Greater Kansas City Conference Player of the Year.
Miles played her club basketball for the MOKAN Elite.
Personal
The daughter of Bridget Smith and Duane Smith and John and Shantel Miles, Ava has three younger siblings, Trey and Mila Miles and Aniya Smith. Ava, who plans to major in sports media and communication at Nebraska, was a member of National Honor Society and a regular member of the Principal's Honor Roll at Staley.
She chose Nebraska over Maryland and Michigan State.
"It truly is the only place that felt like home," Miles said. "I knew that no matter how my day was, that I would find peace and joy with this program. God told me this is where I needed to go, and I know this program is very, very special."
