Outlook (2026-27)
A talented young post player working to make her mark in major conference basketball, Arek Angui (pronounced AY-reck awn-gwee) signed with Huskers on April 28, 2026.

The 6-9 center from Juba, South Sudan became the tallest player in the history of Nebraska women's athletics upon her signing after making her second NCAA Division I transfer from Auburn.

Angui started her college career at UCF, where she played just two games before redshirting in 2024-25.

“We are excited to add Arek to our women’s basketball family," Nebraska Head Coach Amy Williams said. "She brings with her great size, mobility and potential, and we can’t wait to see her develop in our program. She has an amazing perspective and is eager to get to work here in Lincoln."

Angui did not play basketball for the first time until 2022. A video of her dunking a basketball as a 16-year-old at the Dankind Academy in East Africa in 2023 found its way to the United States and she played her first full season of organized basketball at Greenforest Academy in Georgia in 2023-24.

Sophomore (Auburn, 2025-26)
Angui appeared in 20 games in her only year at Auburn, averaging 1.5 points and 2.6 rebounds in 8.8 minutes per game.

She unleashed the best game of her career by producing a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds in a career-high 17 minutes in a win over Mississippi Valley State (Nov. 13).

She also led the Tigers with eight rebounds in her Auburn debut against Alabama State (Nov. 8).

Angui managed six points against Middle Tennessee (Dec. 16). She had two points, five rebounds, a season-high two steals and the first assists of her career in an SEC season-high 13 minutes against No. 5 Vanderbilt (Jan. 22).

Angui saw action against Big Ten schools Oregon and Rutgers, and added playing time against ACC schools California and Syracuse before facing No. 2 Texas, Florida, No. 21 Alabama, No. 5 Vandy, No. 16 Oklahoma, No. 3 South Carolina, No. 13 Ole Miss and No. 5 LSU in SEC play.

Freshman (UCF, 2024-25)
Angui appeared in two games before redshirting as a true freshman at Central Florida in 2024-25. She made her collegiate debut by playing seven minutes and scoring three points in a win over Iona (Nov. 5, 2024). She added two points and two offensive rebounds in 10 minutes in a loss to TCU (Dec. 21, 2024) before missing the rest of the season.

Before Nebraska
Angui did not play basketball for the first time until 2022, when she attended a game with her friend and was asked by a coach of one of the teams to play.

Soon after, she dunked a basketball for the first time at the age of 16, and a video of her dunk made its way to the United States.

She received an offer to attend Greenforest Christian Academy in Decatur, Ga. She came to the United States in February of 2023 and played AAU basketball in Texas during the summer of 2023 before leading Greenforest Academy to the GHSA A Division state championship as a high school senior in 2024.

She averaged a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds per game, including 10 points, 14 rebounds and four blocked shots in the state championship game against Montgomery County. She competed alongside fellow Division I recruits Ndate Ndiaye (FIU) and Lana Koricanac (Troy) at Greenforest. Angui also competed as a member of the track and field team.

Before coming to the United States, she participated at the Dankind Academy, which is the humanitarian project inspired by the work of Luol Deng and Manute Bol using education, basketball and construction as vehicles for progress in East Africa.

Personal
Arek was born in war-torn South Sudan and moved between South Sudan and Uganda as a child. She is majoring in child, youth and family studies at Nebraska.
