1999-00 (Senior)
Nicole Kubik earned first-team All-Big 12, Big 12 All-Tournament and second-team All-America honors, after averaging 17.4 points, 5.1 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game. She played in the WBCA All-Star Challenge Game and was a first-team Defensive All-American by the Women's Basketball Journal.
Kubik became Nebraska's first-ever WNBA draft pick when she was chosen with the 15th pick of the first round by the Los Angeles Sparks. After being released by the Sparks before the start of the season, she joined the Phoenix Mercury in July.
Kubik ranks 15th on the NCAA Division I all-time list with 418 career steals. She ranks fourth all-time at Nebraska with 563 career assists and seventh on the Huskers' all-time scoring list with 1,867 points. She is the only player in Big 12 history to produce 1,800 points, 500 assists, and 400 steals in a career.
As a senior, Kubik averaged 19.0 points and a career-best 5.2 rebounds per game in Big 12 action. She scored a season-high and a Big 12 Tournament record 32 points in Nebraska's win over Kansas.
Kubik posted three double-doubles as a senior to finish her career with 10, including eight points-assists and two point-rebound double-doubles. She scored 20 or more points 10 times as a senior to finish her career with 34 games of 20 or more points.
1998-99 (Junior)
Kubik earned 1999 Associated Press Honorable-Mention All-America honors after averaging 19.8 points, 5.6 assists, 4.1 steals and 3.8 rebounds per game. She captured national defensive player-of-the-year honors from the Women's Basketball News Service and first-team defensive All-America honors by posting a school-record and nation-leading 136 steals in 1998-99. Her 4.1 steals per game ranked second nationally.
Kubik ranked second in the Big 12 and 29th nationally in scoring, which helped her earn a spot on the 1998-99 Women's Basketball News Service Second-Team All-America squad.
Kubik closed the year by setting an NU record with 32-point performance in the Huskers' 98-92 loss to Kentucky in the NCAA Tournament.
In a 60-55 win over Texas in the Big 12 Tournament, Kubik finished with 28 points and a career-high 11 rebounds for her first career points-rebounds double-double.
With a career-high 36 points in the Huskers' 86-62 win over Kansas, Kubik became the 18th Nebraska player to reach the 1,000-point plateau. Against the Jayhawks, Kubik set school records with 16 made free throws and 18 free throw attempts.
She scored 20 or more points in 19 games, including a career-high 36 points against Kansas. In Big 12 play, Kubik averaged 19.4 points, 5.5 assists with 3.8 steals per game.
1997-98 (Sophomore)
Kubik started 33 games, earned third-team All-Big 12 honors and was the Huskers' second-leading scorer, averaging 13.2 points per game. She scored in double figures in 23 of those 33 games.
Kubik averaged 14.7 points per game in Big 12 action. She scored 34 points to lead the Huskers to a 96-91 win at Missouri. Kubik led the Big 12 and set a then-school record with 104 steals. She scored 20 or more points five times.
1996-97 (Freshman)
Kubik started 22 games at shooting guard, including 11 in Big 12 play, and averaged 8.5 points (fourth best on the team). She grabbed 2.8 rebounds and handed out 2.5 assists per game. Her 2.5 steals per game ranked fourth in the Big 12.
High School
The third-leading scorer in Nebraska prep history with 2,179 points, Kubik helped Cambridge to three state titles and an 81-game winning streak. She averaged 28.3 points, seven rebounds, six steals and 5.8 assists as a senior. She averaged 22.5 points, 6.5 assists, 5.9 steals and 4.0 rebounds in her career to lead Cambridge to a 94-3 record.
A four-time all-stater, she was named to the Super-State, all-state, all-class, team as a senior.
Personal
The daughter of Morris and Cathy Kubik, Nicole has three sisters, Margo, Staci and Jami, along with three brothers, Kyle, Trevor, and Colin. Nicole played alongside her older sister, Jami, in 1996-97 and 1997-98 for the Huskers.
Nicole is an athletic administrative assistant and assistant basketball coach at Lincoln Southwest High School.
