Senior (1998-99)
As one of Nebraska's top one-on-one defenders, Monet Williams broke into the Husker starting lineup 14 times and playing in all 33 games of the 1998-99 season, posting averages of 4.9 points and 3.2 rebounds per game. Williams recorded 39 steals, which was third-best on the team. In addition, she was also ranked third on the team in assists with 51.
In Big 12 Conference play, Williams recorded 5.6 points per game while shooting 80 percent from the free throw line. For the season, Williams hit 78.9 percent of her free throws.
In Nebraska's 83-67 win over Missouri, Williams scored a career-high 12 points against the Tigers while hitting 5-of-6 shots from the field. On the season, Williams hit 43.7 of her field goal attempts. Williams was crucial in Nebraska's 60-57 win over Oklahoma State when she posted 11 points and pulled down five rebounds in 35 minutes of action.
Junior (1997-98)
After joining the Huskers as a late signee from Northeast (Neb.) Community College in mid-June, Williams gradually made the adjustment from junior college to Division I basketball.
She played in 32 of the Huskers' 33 games, contributing 2.2 points and 1.3 rebounds in 9.1 minutes per game. Williams hit 37.7 percent of her shots from the field, while establishing herself as one of the Huskers' best free throw shooters by hitting 72.5 percent of her free throws.
Williams opened the season with a five-point and two-rebound effort in just nine minutes against Miami (Ohio). She added six points and one rebound in just five minutes in the Huskers' CableVision Classic championship game win over Kentucky. Against the Wildcats, Williams hit 6-of-7 free throws down the stretch to seal the 68-59 victory.
The clutch performance against the Wildcats helped Williams earn increased playing time, leading to a career-high nine-point, four-rebound performance in 18 minutes of action against Wisconsin-Milwauke. She played a career-high 20 mintues at Iowa State.
In Big 12 Conference action, Williams played all 16 games for the Huskers, averaging 1.8 points and 1.4 rebounds, while adding 10 of her 12 assists on the season.
At Northeast (Neb.) CC
Williams led the Northeast (Norfolk, Neb.) Community College to a 24-8 record as a sophomore, helping the Hawks to a spot in the second round of the regional tournament. For her her play in regionals, she earned a spot on the all-regional team.
Williams averaged 11 points, four steals and 3.4 assists per game to earn all-conference and team co-most valuable player honors in 1996-97.
Williams helped Northeast Community College to a 20-10 mark and a regional tournament appearance as a freshman, playing for Head Coach Matt Svehla. After completing her eligibility at NCC, Williams chose Nebraska over the University of Oklahoma.
High School
Williams averaged 28 points and 10 rebounds per game as a senior at Samuel J. Tilden High School in Brooklyn, N.Y. She led the Monarchs to a 20-6 mark as a senior, earning All-Brooklyn honors for Head Coach Janice Carter. Williams earned two letters in basketball.
Personal
Monet's full name is Mont Starr Williams. She is the daughter of Leslie Williams and Derrick Williams and has two sisters, Simone and April, and a brother, Daryl. Monet studied communications at the University of Nebraska.
