Molly Shanahan contributed during her freshman and sophomore seasons at Nebraska, despite being slowed by a leg injury during her first season in 1979-80.

In two seasons at Nebraska, she averaged 3.6 points and 3.6 rebounds per game while playing in 50 career games. She enjoyed her best year as a sophomore in 1980-81, when she averaged 4.4 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. She averaged 2.4 points and 2.4 boards per contest in 21 games as a freshman.

Shanahan was an All-California Interscholastic Federation performer at Buena High School - the same school that produced Huskers Cathy Owen and Terri Parriott.

The daughter of Michael and Shirley Shanahan, Molly was born Jan. 2, 1961. She was a business administration major at Nebraska.
