1998-99 (Senior)
One of the top volleyball players in Nebraska history, Lisa Reitsma was a contributor to Nebraska's run to a second straight NCAA Tournament appearance on the basketball court in her only year with the Huskers as a senior in 1998-99. Reitsma, a 6-4 center from Sanborn, Iowa, chose to join the basketball team as a fifth-year senior after completing her eligibility as a two-time All-American with the Husker volleyball team.
In her only basketball season at NU, Reitsma played in all 33 games for the Huskers with four starts. She averaged 3.2 points and 3.6 rebounds per game while leading the Huskers with 34 blocked shots on the season. She shot a stellar 58.2 percent (46-79) from the field, while also contributing 12 assists and 14 steals on the season.
Reitsma scored a career-high eight points on five occasions, including wins over Troy State, Kent, No. 23 Kansas in Lincoln, and setbacks at No. 15 Iowa State, when she added seven rebounds, and to Baylor in Lincoln.
She made her first career start in the loss at Ames on Jan. 28, before adding three straight starts during NU's run at the Big 12 Tournament in Kansas City. She had five points and four boards in a first-round start against Texas A&M, before earning another start in the Huskers' 60-55 victory over Texas in the quarterfinals. She had four points and five boards in a loss to No. 9 Texas Tech in the Big 12 semifinals.
Reitsma pulled down a career-best eight boards in an 85-72 win over Oklahoma on Jan. 30, when she also notched a career-high four blocked shots. She matched her eight-rebound effort to go along with six points in a win over Kansas State in Lincoln on Feb. 24.
In Big 12 play, Reitsma averaged 1.5 blocks per game, while adding 3.0 points and 3.9 rebounds per contest.
1994-97 (Nebraska Volleyball)
Reitsma capped one of the greatest careers in Husker history by becoming just the fifth Nebraska volleyball player to be named a two-time, first-team All-American.
As a sophomore outside hitter in 1995, Reitsma earned her first AVCA All-America certificate while leading the Huskers to their first NCAA volleyball championship.
Reitsma followed with another first-team AVCA All-America season as a junior in 1996, while leading the Huskers back to the NCAA semifinals. She was chosen the 1996 Big 12 Conference Player of the Year, after setting Nebraska single-season records with 611 kills and 1,468 attacks.
As a senior, Reitsma led the Huskers to the NCAA Tournament, while earning second-team All-America honors. She left her mark on the Husker record book by finishing in the top seven in four categories. She finished second in career attacks with 3,766, sixth in block assists with 337 and her .302 hitting percentage ranked seventh all-time at Nebraska.
In all, Reitsma was named to 14 all-tournament teams, including the 1996 NCAA Championships All-Tournament Team.
Along with her performance on the volleyball court, Reitsma was a standout in the classroom, earning third-team GTE/CoSIDA Academic All-America honors and first-team academic All-Big 12 honors in 1996. She was an honorable-mention academic all-conference pick in 1997.
High School
Reitsma was a Class 2A first-team all-state selection in basketball as a senior at Western Christian High School. She averaged 18 points and six blocked shots per game to earn the Des Moines Register's 1994 High School Girls' Athlete-of-the-Year honors, after earning all-state honors in both basketball and volleyball.
Reitsma led Western Christian to the Class 2A state volleyball title in 1993, and was the captain of the state playoffs all-tournament squad. She was a two-time, first-team all-state volleyball selection.
In the classroom, Reitsma graduated with honors and was a member of the National Honor Society.
Personal
The daughter of Larry and Alvina Reitsma, Lisa was born on March 25, 1976, in Hartley, Iowa. She was a psychology major at Nebraska.
