Team 1997-98 Nebraska Women's Basketball

Senior (1997-98)
Jami Kubik was one of Nebraska's unsung heroes during the 1997-98 season, starting all 33 games and averaging 8.7 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.2 steals per game.  She was one of the hardest-working players, and she did all the little things that help create a successful team.

In Nebraska's 96-91 win at Missouri, Kubik scored a career-high 23 points along with five rebounds.  Against Stetson, Kubik led the team in scoring with 16 points and again against Oklahoma State with 15 points.  Kubik had her only double-double of the season in NU's 76-59 win over New Mexico in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.  Against the Lobos Kubik scored 13 points and added 11 rebounds.

Junior (1996-97)
Kubik played her way into the starting lineup midway through the season and ended up starting 13 games for the Huskers, including 10 in Big 12 Conference play.  She averaged 4.4 points and 3.2 rebounds per outing while playing 21 minutes per contest.  She shot 44.6 percent from the field, 45.7 percent at the foul line and had 36 offensive rebounds, fourth best on the team.

Kubik hit for 10 points against Missouri and Baylor and had a season-high seven rebounds versus Kansas.  She pulled down six rebounds against Bucknell and at Missouri.  Kubik handed out three assists in a game five times, twice in Big 12 Conference play.  She averaged averaged 4.8 points and 3.0 rebounds in league action, starting 12 games and shooting 52.5 percent from the field against Big 12 opponents.  In the second win over Missouri, she hit 4-of-5 shots from the field, 2-of-3 free throws and had a career-high seven steals to go with 10 points.  Kubik hit 3-of-4 from the field and 4-of-6 at the four line versus Baylor, while grabbing three offensive rebounds.

Sophomore (1995-96)
Kubik started six games, averaging 4.9 points per game in that role.  Kubik hit 3.5 points per contest overall and made 3-of-9 from three-point range and 66.7 percent (22-of-33) at the foul line.  She scored in double figures three times, with 10 points against Gonzaga, 11 versus South Alabama and 10 against Oklahoma, all Husker wins. 

Her best outing was against the Sooners, when she had two assists and seven rebounds to go with 10 points.  Kubik pulled down a career-high nine rebounds against Sam Houston State and had at least seven rebounds in a game on three other occasions, even though she averaged fewer than 16 mintues per game.

Freshman (1994-95)
Kubik averaged 4.1 points per game as a freshman, starting 12 games.  She grabbed 2.9 rebounds while appearing in all 27 contests.  She hit for nine points in a game four times and pulled down seven rebounds on two other occasions.  Kubik had five assists against Oklahoma State and finished fifth on the team in that category, averaging 1.3 assists per game.  She went three consecutive games without missing a shot from the field, going 6-of-6 against Colorado, Missouri and Iowa State.

High School
Kubik was named Miss Nebraska Basketball in 1994, after leading Cambridge High School to its second consecutive state championship.  She averaged 23.6 points, 7.8 rebounds, 5.3 steals and 2.5 assists to earn Super-State Team Captain honors.  Kubik was twice named all-state and was an all-conference slection four times.  She set the state tournament one-game scoring record with 36 points and finished second all-time in state tournament career scoring with 2.7 points.  She also excelled in volleyball and track.  She was a member of the first-team Super-State volleyball squad in 1993 and qualified for state in the 100-meter hurdles, 300-meter hurdles, 400-meter relay and 1600-meter relay.

Personal
Kubik graduated from Nebraska with a degree in accounting.  The daughter of Morris and Cathy Kubik, Jami's sister Nicole was on the basketball team 1997-2000.  Jami has three sisters, Margo, Staci and Nicole, along with three brothers, Kyle, Trevor, and Colin.
