Casey Kear joined the Huskers as a volunteer assistant coach in 2014-15. Kear works with the Husker distance group under Nebraska Assistant Coach Dave Harris. Kear is a USA Track and Field Certified Level 2 Coach.
Kear comes to Nebraska after serving as an assistant coach at Point Loma Nazarene University, where he coached five national qualifiers in distance events in 2013. Before his time at Point Loma Nazarene, Kear was the girl's cross country head coach and assistant track and field coach at San Juan Hills High School from 2011-13. Kear coached three California Interscholastic Foundation Qualifiers in the 800 Meters. He also guided the 25th-ranked girls' sprint medley in the nation, the 42nd-ranked girls' distance medley and the 23rd-ranked 800m runner.
From 2006-10, Kear competed in cross country and track at Point Loma Nazarene University. In 2008, he was the GSAC (Golden State Athletic Conference) 4x800 Meter Relay Champion. His success continued on into 2010, where the three-time NAIA national qualifier was the GSAC 3000 Meter Steeplechase champion and an NAIA Champion of Character Award recipient. His success helped lead Point Loma Nazarene to the 2010 GSAC Track and Field championship.
Kear earned a bachelor's degree in biblical studies from Point Loma Nazarene in 2010 and a master’s degree in coaching and athletic administration at Concordia University in Irvine, Calif., in 2013.
