Pole Vault, 16-2 (4.93)

2009 (Freshman)

Brett Maher (pronounced mah-HER) joined the track and field team during the outdoor season after completing his first season as a punter on the Nebraska football team... opened with a tie for seventh at the Nebraska Quad, clearing 15-1 in the pole vault... ended the year by taking top honors at the Ward Haylett Invitational with a vault of 15-7.

 

Before Nebraska (Kearney HS)

Maher came to Nebraska after putting together an impressive high school career at Centennial and Kearney high schools, where he won three Nebraska state titles... won the Class B state title in the pole vault as a junior at Centennial (14-10)... transferred to Kearney before his senior year... broke the Class A and Class A state meet records in the pole vault with a vault of 16-2, also won the Class A long jump crown with a leap of 22-10 3/4... contributed on the football field at Kearney... went 41-for-46 kicking extra points and 8-for-14 on field goals, while averaging 41.2 yards per punt... hauled in 775 receiving yards and 10 touchdown receptions... chose to walk-on at Nebraska over offers from Ohio and Colorado State.

Parents are Brian and Peg Maher... born Dec. 6. 1987... has not declared a major... also a member of the Nebraska football team... sisters Lindsey and Maggie are also on the track and field team.
