She produced a stellar year as a sophomore in 1996, as she won the Big Eight indoor pentathlon title and was named an All-America heptathlete at the 1996 NCAA Outdoor Championships. Blomstedt again won the pentathlon title at the 1997 conference indoor meet, which was the inaugural Big 12 Indoor Championships.
