2005: Ray Scotten put together one of the finest seasons for a Husker pole vaulter in his first year at Nebraska, capped by a runner-up finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships (18-0 1/2)... claimed the Big 12 indoor crown by tying his personal-best mark of 18-0 1/2... ranks second on NU’s all-time indoor pole vault charts... reached the mark for the first time to win the Husker Invite and earn an NCAA automatic qualification... earned second at the Tyson Invitational with the same mark... was runner-up to teammate Gable Baldwin at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships with a clearance of 17-10 1/2... reached the NCAA outdoor meet after finishing sixth (17-5) at the NCAA Midwest Regional... claimed his second NCAA All-America honor of the year after tying for eighth at the NCAA outdoor meet... recorded his outdoor personal-best height of 18-2 1/2 to win the John Jacobs Invitational and claim Big 12 Athlete-of-the-Week honors (April 20)... tied with Baldwin for second on NU’s all-time outdoor pole vault charts with the mark... also earned outdoor wins at the Texas Relays and Kansas Relays with vaults of 18-0 1/2, as well as at the Stanford Invitational (17-10 1/2) and Nebraska Invitational (17-4 1/2)... finished second at the Drake Relays (17-10 1/2) and third in the Invitational section of the Kansas Relays (18-0 1/2)... won the adidas Classic (17-0 3/4) in his second indoor meet as a Husker. Southern Illinois: Scotten transferred to Nebraska from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Ill., where he was a 2004 NCAA All-American in the pole vault outdoors... vaulted his personal best of 18-0 1/2 at the 2004 John McDonnell Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., when the event was forced indoors because of inclement weather... outdoor highest clearance of 17-11 came at the 2004 NCAA Mideast Regional Championships, and earned him a ticket to the NCAA Championships where he finished 11th (17-8 1/2)... earned NCAA All-American recognition by finishing fifth (17-8 1/2) at the 2004 NCAA Indoor Championships... won both indoor and outdoor pole vault titles at the 2003 and 2004 Missouri Valley Conference Championships... also ran the third leg on the Salukis’ third-place 4x100-meter relay in the 2004 MVC meet... qualified for the 2003 NCAA Outdoor Championships, but did not make his opening height in the qualifying round. High School: As a senior, Scotten was the 2002 Indiana state pole vault champion (16-6)... was the 2002 Midwest Meet of Champions pole vault champion (16-7) in postseason competition... finished runner-up in the pole vault in a prep-personal-best 16-10 at the 2002 Gold West Invitational in Sacramento, Calif.... best indoor prep vault was 16-0 1/4, which won the 2002 Bomber Boilermaker Invitational... was a 2002 Track and Field News All-American with a season best of 16-10, which ranked fifth on the season list... qualified for the 2001 Indiana State Track and Field Championships, but did not place.
