2009 (Junior/Sophomore)

Nick Makukutu (pronounced MAH-KOO-kuh-TOO) earned his first All-Big 12 honor and made his first trip to the NCAA Midwest Regional in 2009... started the indoor season by breaking his previous best of 1:11.75 in the 600 yards with a second-place time of 1:11.37 at the Holiday Inn Invitational... won the adidas Classic two weeks later with an improved time of 1:10.59... dropped his personal best by one-hundredth of a second at the Big 12 Championships to finish seventh (1:10.58)... opened the outdoor season with a regional-qualifying performance of 52.36 in the 400-meter hurdles at the Baldy Castillo Invitational... shattered his previous best of 52.25 at the Nebraska Quad with a time of 50.99... finished 11th with a time of 52.40 in his first appearance at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships... concluded the year with an eighth-place time of 52.07 at the NCAA Midwest Regional.

 

2008 (Sophomore/Redshirt Freshman)

Makukutu started the indoor season with a personal-best time of 1:54.79 in the 800-meter run to finish third at the Holiday Inn Invitational... finished fourth at the adidas Classic in the 600-yard run (1:11.75)... posted a runner-up finish at the Prairie Wolf Invitational with a then-personal best of 49.09 in the 400 meters... finished in the top 10 at five meets during the outdoor season in the 400-meter hurdles... ran a season-best time of 53.26 at the Nebraska Invitational to finish third.

 

2007 (Freshman)

Makukutu focused on the long sprints during the indoor season... won the 400 meters at the NWU Invitational (49.65)... focused mainly on the 600-yard run, where he ended the season with an oversized time of 1:11.37 during prelims at the Big 12 Championships, but did not advance to the finals... redshirted during the outdoor season... posted a then-personal best of 52.25 in the 400-meter hurdles at the Nebraska Invitational as an unattached athlete.

 

Before Nebraska (Marshall HS)

Makukutu ran on a pair of Texas Class 5A state champion 4x400-meter relay teams at Marshall High School under Coach Dennis Brantley... ran the second leg for squads that posted winning times of 3:11.99 in 2006 and 3:10.51 in 2005... the Fort Bend Marshall relay time was the national high school leader in 2005 and second in 2006... ranked among the Texas state leaders in the 300-meter hurdles as a senior with a personal-best time of 37.7... ran a personal best in the 400-meter hurdles (53.12) to win the 2005 USATF Gulf Association young men’s title... followed that with a 53.56 sixth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles at the USATF Youth Championships.
