Before Nebraska
Emma Steffensen, a homegrown Husker, added to her state championships accolades in May 2026. Winning her first gold in her junior year in the 800m, Steffensen accomplished back-to-back titles in 2026. Not only was her personal best of 2:07.88 a meet record, but it was also a Class B record and a state record.
In addition to her title in the 800m, Steffensen swept the 400m competition with a personal best, meet record time of 55.87. She added a duo of runner-up finishes in the mile (5:05.11) and the 4x400m relay (3:58.46).
