Before Nebraska
Helping Hesston capture its first girls' title in program history, Ashley Lehman secured four gold medals at the state meet, contributing 40 points to the total of 70. On the opening day, she took the meet record and title in the 400m in 54.02, a .63 improvement on her record-setting victory the previous year. In the 100m, she ran a 11.87 in the prelims, wind conditions prevented it from being a new meet mark, but she still took first in the finals with a 12.01.
Lehman's aunt, Christina Lehman, claimed the pole vault state title in the 2001 Kansas Class 3A meet with a state best of 12-7 and later became an indoor All-American for Nebraska in 2004. Ashley beat out her aunt's record in 2026 with a new meet record and back-to-back titles with a height of 12-8.25.
For her fourth state title in the 400m, Lehman smashed her previous record in the event with a time of 54.94, winning the event by nearly three seconds. Lehman ended her high school career with 12 state track titles.
