Jeff Tezak returned to Nebraska as a graduate manager for the 2016 season and was promoted to the role of volunteer assistant coach in 2017. A native of San Diego, Calif., Tezak was a three-year letterwinner at Nebraska from 2007 to 2009 and earned second-team All-Big 12 honors in 2007.
As the team’s volunteer assistant, Tezak coaches first base and assists with coaching NU’s infielders. He helped the Huskers capture the Big Ten regular-season title in 2017 and make a trip to the NCAA Tournament.
Tezak was drafted in the 24th round of the 2009 MLB Draft by the Chicago White Sox. He played in the White Sox organization for two seasons before going on to play and coach baseball in Austria, Australia and Spain.
Tezak started his college career at Cal State Northridge, where he hit .317 with 19 RBIs and 26 runs as a freshman in 2005. He then transferred to Palomar College in San Marcos, Calif. In 2006, Tezak hit .386 with 35 RBIs and earned junior college All-America honors from the California Community College Coaches Association.
Tezak joined the Huskers in January of 2007. In 56 games that year, he led the team in hitting, batting .335 with 14 doubles, three triples, three home runs and 37 RBIs. He started the first seven games of the 2008 season before injury cost him the rest of the season and he earned a medical redshirt, allowing him to return in 2009. Tezak ranked third on the team in 2009 with a .315 batting average. He added nine doubles, one triple, two home runs and 28 RBIs. He struck out just 16 times in 178 at-bats as a senior.
Tezak graduated in 2008 with a degree in history and a minor in environmental studies. He is currently working on his master’s degree in history.
