2017-18 (Senior)
Julia Bond wrapped up her senior season as one of the most successful Huskers in Nebraska bowling history. She finished with the third best average in a career (210.092). Bond also bowled the eighth best average in school history for a single season in 2017-18 (211.440). She is currently a member of the Team USA bowling squad.
During her senior year, Bond garnered first team All-American accolades, making her the eighth four-time All-American in school history. She competed in all 10 of Nebraska’s events in 2017-18 and posted an average of 211.4. Bond earned a pinfall of 816 in four games at the NCAA Championship and helped Nebraska make it to the national semifinal.
Bond had one win and four top five finishes in 2017-18. Her lone win of the season came at the Big Red Invitational with an average of 232.6, helping the Huskers win the tournament crown. She was the runner-up at the Warhawk Classic with an average of 234.8, which ranks as the 10th-best average in school history. She also posted a pair of third-place finishes at the SFA Stormin’ Ladyjack Invitational (219.2) and at the Central Missouri Invitational (203.6). She finished fourth at the Brunswick Bearcat Open with an average of 215.4 to help Nebraska claim the team title.
Bond continued her outstanding work in the classroom, earning spots on the Academic All-Big Ten team and on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll. She also earned the Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Award for the third consecutive season. Along with her success in the classroom, Bond earned a spot on the Tom Osborne Citizenship team for the fourth year in a row.
2016-17 (Junior)
Bond continued to be a standout performer for the Huskers as a junior, as she earned NTCA first-team All-America honors for the second year in a row. She bowled for the Huskers out of the anchor spot in the rotation, and won one tournament title while finishing in the top-10 at five others.
Bond scored an average above 200 in seven of NU's 10 tournaments in 2016-17, leading the team with a season average of 212, the seventh-highest single-season average in program history.
Bond won the individual competition at the Crusader Classic, as she led the Huskers to the team title with an average of 220. She finished second overall at the SFA Stormin' Ladyjack Invitational with a season-high average of 228 to help the Huskers to a second-place finish and also placed second at the Central Missouri Mid-America Invitational, leading NU to the team title. She added a third-place finish at the Mid-Winter Invitational with an average of 209.6 to help NU to its first team title of the season, while she finished fifth overall with an average of 220.2 at the Wildcat Invitational to open the season.
She finished 19th overall at the NCAA Championship with an average of 199.1, as she helped NU to a national runner-up finish.
Bond continued to stand out off the lanes as well, as she earned a spot on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in both semesters of 2016-17. She won an Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Award and she was named to the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team for her work in the community in 2017. She also earned Academic All-Big Ten honors for the second consecutive year.
Bond's success carried over to bowling at a national level, as she won the 2017 U.S. Amateur Bowling title at the 2017 United States Bowling Congress Team USA Trials and finished fourth overall at the trials with 54 ranking points, earning a spot on Team USA for the 2017 season.
2015-16 (Sophomore)
After helping lead Nebraska to a national title as a freshman, Bond took her game to the next level as a sophomore, anchoring the Huskers' five-bowler rotation in 2015-16. A first-team NTCA All-American, Bond led NU with an average of 210 on the season.
Bond finished in first place individually at the NCAA Championship with an average of 228.4, earning a spot on the all-tournament team and helping the Huskers to a second-place national finish.
As a sophomore, the Aurora, Ill., native posted six top-10 finishes in Nebraska's 10 events. She averaged over 200 in eight events on the year as well. She was at her best at the Warhawk Invitational in February when she finished second individually with an average of 229, helping the Huskers to the team title.
At Nebraska's own Big Red Invitational, Bond finished second overall with a 223.4 average. She also posted a third-place finish at the TRACK Kat Klash and a fifth-place finish at the Prairie View A&M Invitational.
In early January, Bond was named a member of Junior Team USA 2016 following her performance at the 2015 Junior Gold Championships.
Bond continued her strong work off the lanes as a sophomore, claiming NTCA Scholastic All-America honors for a second time. She also earned academic All-Big Ten honors as a sophomore. Bond was named to the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in both the fall and spring and she earned a spot on the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team for her work in the community in 2016.
Bond competed for Junior Team USA in the summer following her sophomore season. She earned silver medals in the doubles and team competitions in addition to a bronze medal in singles at the World Bowling Youth Championships at Sun Valley Lanes in Lincoln.
2014-15 (Freshman)
The top-rated high school bowler in the country during her senior season, Bond came to Nebraska to compete to win a championship, which is exactly what she did in her first season as a Husker.
She was named NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Bowler after Nebraska's fifth NCAA championship. She was a constant force in the NU starting lineup in 2015, as the always-clutch Bond was the fourth bowler in the five-person-rotation.
For her efforts, Bond was named a third-team NTCA All-American while also earning a spot on the NCAA All-Tournament team.
In five of Nebraska's eight tournaments, Bond scored at least a 200 average. She was at her best at the Mid-Winter Classic where she won the individual competition with a staggering 223.4 average.
At the Big Red Invitational, Bond was a leader for the Huskers during all three days of competition. She compiled a 211.2 average throughout the competition, placing her sixth in the individual standings.Â
A standout in the classroom, Bond earned NTCA Scholastic All-America honors in 2015, while claiming spots on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the fall and spring semesters. Bond was also recognized for her outstanding work in the community, capturing a place on the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.
Bond competed for Junior Team USA in the summer after her freshman season. She won five gold medals at the Tournament of the Americas in addition to gaining experience in multiple other international competitions.
Before Nebraska
Bond joined the Nebraska bowling team after being ranked as the top high school female bowler in the United States. Bond rolled two 300 games and an 805 series during her career at Waubonsie Valley High School. She captured all-state honors in 2013 and 2014, while being named all-conference in every season of her high school career.
Personal
The daughter of Daniel and Sonia Bond, Julia was born on Jan. 28, 1996. She majored in forensic science and earned her bachelor's degree from Nebraska in May of 2019. Bond was an NTCA Scholastic All-American in 2015 and 2016 and a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection (2016, 2017, 2018). She was a nine-time member of the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll. She is also a four-time selection to the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.
