2008 (Senior)
After six NCAA All-America seasons at Nebraska, senior Dusty Jonas soared to the next level in the high jump by capturing his first national title and a Big 12 Championship in 2008... started the 2008 indoor season in an invite-only field at the Wildcat Invite with a fourth-place finish... rebounded to take first at the next four meets of the season... finished runner-up to Kansas State’s Scott Sellers at his final indoor Big 12 Championships... defeated Sellers at the national meet by winning his first NCAA championship with a school-record jump of 7-7 (2.31)... started the outdoor season in dominant fashion with a win at the Jim Click Shootout with a jump of 7-5 (2.26)... finished second two weeks later in the invitational division of the Kansas Relays... followed with three straight wins at the Drake Relays, Big 12 Championships and NCAA Midwest Regional... soared 7-8 ? (2.36) at the Big 12 Championships to set school and conference records... held the top mark in the world from May 18 to July 13...  dropped to second on the world list when Stefan Holm of Sweden jumped 7-9 ? (2.37)... tied for second with Grant Lindsey of Kentucky... became the first Nebraska high jumper to make an Olympic Team by defeating Sellers in a jump-off at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Ore... ended his Husker career with one national title, one Big 12 Conference title and eight NCAA All-America honors.

2007 (Junior)

Dusty Jonas extended his streak of high jump NCAA All-America finishes to six, only one behind school-record-holder Shane Lavy, with his sixth-place finish at the 2007 NCAA Outdoor Championships... finished as the runner-up at the NCAA indoor meet for the second time in three years with a jump of 7-4 1/2... the performance ended four straight national meet competitions with final clearances of 7-3 3/4... earned an automatic bid to the NCAA outdoor meet in the high jump with a fourth-place clearance of 7-3 1/4 at the NCAA Midwest Regional... selected for an at-large berth in the long jump with his career-best leap of 25-5 1/2 (wind aided) to win top honors at the Nebraska Open... also cleared his season best of 7-5 1/4 to win the high jump... received Big 12 Athlete-of-the-Week honors for his Nebraska Open efforts... finished third in the high jump at the Big 12 outdoor meet, equaling his best conference meet clearance (7-4 1/4)... also competed in both the long and triple jump events, but did not place... added outdoor high jump victories during the Nebraska Wesleyan Invite, John Jacobs Invite and Kansas Relays... also earned a regional qualification in the triple jump at the Nebraska Invite with a personal-best mark of 49-5 1/2, but elected not to compete in the event at the regional meet... won the high jump at four of eight meets during the indoor season, including the Holiday Inn Invite, Conference Challenge, adidas Classic and Prairie Wolf Invite, while also winning the long jump at the adidas meet... placed third in the high jump at the Big 12 indoor meet, while recording a personal-best distance of 23-11 in the long jump.

 

2006 (Sophomore)

Jonas had a stellar sophomore campaign... earned his third and fourth career All-America honors at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships after collecting respective finishes of fifth and fourth with identical marks of 7-3 3/4... earned an automatic bid to the NCAA outdoor meet with his second place performance at the NCAA Midwest Regional (7-3 1/4)... claimed a bronze medal at the Big 12 outdoor meet (7-2 1/2) after finishing fourth during the indoor season (7-4 1/4)... set personal-best heights three consecutive weeks during the outdoor season, capped by a leap of 7-5 3/4 to win the Kansas Relays, becoming the first Husker to win a Kansas Relays high jump title since Steve Krebs in 1968... ranked fourth among all U.S. athletes during the 2006 outdoor season with the performance, while moving into a tie for second on NU’s all-time outdoor performance chart... recorded a height of 7-5 to win the Nebraska Invitational... also set a season-best long jump of 23-11 1/2 during the meet... placed fourth at the Texas Relays with a 7-4 1/2 clearance... recorded his personal-best indoor leap of 7-4 1/2 to win the Prairie Wolf Invite... earned his first NCAA automatic qualification after finishing fourth at the Tyson Invite with a then-career-best clearance of 7-3 3/4... collected runner-up honors at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invite with a provisional height of 7-2 1/2... won the Nebraska-Colorado State-Kent State Triangular (7-3), along with a second-place finish in the triple jump (47-4 1/2)... returned quicker than expected after missing the season-opening Holiday Inn Invite with a broken arm suffered while playing basketball during winter break... began his season one week later with a career-best triple jump (47-8) to grab runner-up honors at the adidas Classic after winning the high jump (7-2 1/4).

 

2005 (Freshman)

Jonas exploded onto the national scene with one of the finest seasons by a freshman athlete in Nebraska history... claimed the U.S. junior high jump championship with a then-personal-best clearance of 7-4 1/4... concluded his season by winning the high jump title at the Pan American Junior Championships in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, with a leap of 7-3... finished runner-up at the NCAA indoor meet with his previous indoor career-best clearance of 7-3 3/4... earned his second NCAA All-America honor of the year with a sixth-place finish at the NCAA outdoor meet (7-3 3/4)... placed fourth at the Big 12 outdoor meet with a height of 7-2 1/4, while finishing fifth at the indoor conference meet (7-0 1/2)... won gold his first two meets as a Husker, tying for first at the Holiday Inn Invite (7-1 3/4) and claiming the title at the adidas Classic (7-3)... also earned first place at the Cyclone NCAA Qualifier (7-2 1/2)... finished runner-up at the Tyson Invite with a then-career-best mark of 7-3 1/4... claimed second place outdoors at the Penn Relays (7-0 1/2)... qualified for outdoor nationals with a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Midwest Regional (7-1).

 

High School (La Vernia)

Jonas came to Nebraska as one of the best young high jump prospects in the United States... coache by Ganny Gonzales and Richard Hinojosa in high school... won the 2003 AAU National Junior Olympic Games in Ypsilanti, Mich., with a spectacular meet-record high jump of 7-3... the mark tied for fourth on the Texas prep all-time charts with, among others, former Husker Shaun Kologinczak... finished runner-up in the Texas Class 3A state meet high jump in 2003 (6-10) and 2002 (6-11)... fourth as a sophomore in the 2001 Texas Class 3A high jump... 2004 Texas Relays high school high jump champion (6-11)... runner-up in 2003 with a 7-0 jump... 2004 AAU National Junior Olympic Games high jump champion, and was second in the triple jump with a career-best mark of 49-0.
