2006: Jeni Steiner made tremendous improvements in the weight and hammer throws as a junior, while continuing to perform at an All-Big 12 level in the shot put... placed fourth in the shot put, while adding ninth- (season-best 157-3) and 11th-place (150-0) finishes in the discus and hammer, respectively, at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships... competed in the NCAA Midwest Regional in both the shot put and discus, finishing seventh and 23rd... posted a season best of 49-9 3/4 to claim runner-up honors at the Kansas Relays and hit the regional qualification for the first time in 2006... recorded a career-best spin of 174-5 in the hammer at the Texas Relays... finished 11th (46-6) and 14th (54-8 1/4) in the shot and weight at the Big 12 indoor meet... finished second to teammate Becky Breisch at the Prairie Wolf Invitational with a season-best weight throw of 57-3 3/4... opened the year with her top shot put mark of 50-4 at the Holiday Inn Invite. 2005: Steiner garnered bronze honors in the shot put at the Big 12 outdoor meet with a personal-best mark of 51-11 1/4... placed fifth in the shot at the Big 12 indoor meet with a heave of 48-3 1/4... qualified for the Midwest Regional for the second straight year, finishing 16th in the shot... hit the regional-qualifying standard to open her season with a fourth-place throw of 47-6 1/2 at the Stanford Invite... won the shot put at the Doane Relays (50-9)... recorded her best indoor throw of the season to finish third at the Northern Iowa Invite (50-0)... claimed season-best throws of 48-9 in the weight throw at the Holiday Inn Invite and 171-4 in the hammer at the John Jacobs Invite... top discus performance of 147-0 earned 13th place at the Big 12 outdoor meet. 2004: Steiner experienced a successful first campaign as a Husker thrower... finished eighth in the shot put at the Big 12 indoor meet (47-9 3/4)... took ninth place in the discus (152-9) at the outdoor conference meet and 10th in the shot (43-9 1/4)... had a career-best performance of 51-4 1/2 in the indoor shot at the Kansas State Open, earning third place... also set a then-personal best of 51-3 1/2 in the outdoor shot to finish third at the Jim Click Shootout... personal-best of 162-7 in the discus claimed fifth place at the Nebraska Quadrangular... competed at the Midwest Regional in the discus, finishing 14th (159-10), and the shot, finishing 18th (44-7)... highest placing in the discus came at the Mid-States Invitational, with a second-place throw of 158-10... claimed bronze in the indoor shot at the Holiday Inn Invitational (46-9). 2003: Steiner redshirted during the 2003 season in order to better prepare for future throwing... competed unattached in one indoor and three outdoor meets... in her first outdoor competition at the Nebraska Wesleyan Twilight, won both the shot put (46-11 1/2) and the discus (151-1). High School: Had an impressive prep career at Columbus High School... won both the shot (43-4 1/2) and discus (144-5) at the 2002 Nebraska Class A State Championships... at the 2001 Class A meet, won the discus (137-8) and was third in the shot (42-10)... as a sophomore, won the shot put and was runner-up in discus in Class A... scored in both the shot (second) and the discus (third) in the 1999 Class A meet... 2002 Nebraska State Youth Athletics champion in shot (45-6) and discus (143-2)... advanced to USATF National Youth Athletics Meet, finishing second in the discus and fourth in the shot... was seventh in the shot at the 2002 USATF National Junior Olympics, which was held in Omaha, Neb.... competed in 2002 IATC Senior Spotlight Meet in Cedar Falls, Iowa, finishing fourth in the shot and fifth in the discus.
